Western Cape opens new multi-million rand treatment centre for victims of substance abuse (KENSINGTON TREATMENT CENTRE)

In April 2009 the out-going Premier for the Western Cape, Ms Lynn Brown handed over a new treatment facility for victims of substance abuse to the CEO of Lukhanyo Clinic to provide the services, following its successful tender bid.

Dr Ashraf Jedaar, officially admitted the first patients in June and to-date (Dec.2009) the staff tearfully said farewell to their 120th  patient, confident that they are ready to return to their families.

The Centre is fully equipped with sleeping and socio-religious facilities and a thoroughly professional and caring team of healthcare-givers. Lukhanyo wins tender to provide professional & management services at new Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre for Youth  in Eerste River

On 16 June 2010 the current Premier of the Western Cape Government officially opened the first rehabilitation centre in the province to exclusively target young people between the ages of 13 and 18. Mrs Helen Zille noted that this new approach was "a shift in policy emphasis towards preventing the development of chronic addiction, substance use disorders, mental illness and criminality. It is designed to treat people with substance use disorders early in their lives, to give them a chance to recover, carry on with their education and psychological development, and become healthy, responsible adults..."

An excited and enthusiastic Dr Jedaar at KTC is currently preparing the staff to admit the first 40 patients on 1 August 2010. Read the official opening statement by clicking on report.
