The CEO of Lukhanyo, Dr Ashraf Jedaar,  announced his group's intention to open 2 more clinics with full in- and outpatient facilities for stress and other emotional problems. 

Summit Clinic at the new Rondebosch Medical Centre will be fully operative by the end of  July 2010 (structural problems).

Gordon's Bay Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre , set in the rural ambience of and overlooking False Bay, offers the ideal therapeutic environment for patients recuperating from stressful experiences..

Lukhanyo means "the place of the rising sun" , a place of hope and healing!

Who/What is Lukhanyo ? It is a team of professional mental health providers serving the community of Cape Town, South Africa, see http://www.lukhanyo.co.za/services.htm for further details. Its name Lukhanyo is a Xhosa word describing the place where the sun rises, and which also symbolises the place of hope and healing in African tradition.

DEMOCRATIC  HEALTH  PRACTICE

This year Cape Town, South Africa, celebrates the 11th anniversary of the birth of its own mental health facility, Lukhanyo Clinic, which was a direct outflow of the process of democratization and hailed at its launch, as  a  triumph for democratic health practice in South Africa!

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

August 2004 the Wynberg clinic moved to a homely new premises at 54 Broad Road, Wynberg.  Medical practitioners and hospitals are increasing referring their patients to Lukhanyo for specialised, professional  assessments and treatment.

Lukhanyo is currently operating from 3 premises: the head-quarters in Wynberg, Lukhanyo Health Centre at 42 Plein Street, Eerste River and at the new Promenade Mall (Mitchell's Plain).  Contact: (021) 7620223/4

Dr Ashraf Jedaar, our resident psychiatrist, appears regularly in the courts of law in South Africa as specialist psychiatrist consultant.

Western Cape opens new multi-million rand treatment centre for victims of substance abuse (KENSINGTON TREATMENT CENTRE)

In April 2009 the out-going Premier for the Western Cape, Ms Lynn Brown handed over a new treatment facility for victims of substance abuse to the CEO of Lukhanyo Clinic to provide the services, following its successful tender bid.

Dr Ashraf Jedaar, officially admitted the first patients in June and to-date (Dec.2009) the staff tearfully said farewell to their 120th  patient, confident that they are ready to return to their families.

The Centre is fully equipped with sleeping and socio-religious facilities and a thoroughly professional and caring team of healthcare-givers. Lukhanyo wins tender to provide professional & management services at new Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre for Youth  in Eerste River

On 16 June 2010 the current Premier of the Western Cape Government officially opened the first rehabilitation centre in the province to exclusively target young people between the ages of 13 and 18. Mrs Helen Zille noted that this new approach was "a shift in policy emphasis towards preventing the development of chronic addiction, substance use disorders, mental illness and criminality. It is designed to treat people with substance use disorders early in their lives, to give them a chance to recover, carry on with their education and psychological development, and become healthy, responsible adults..."
